Subject: Cell phone tower
Comments: How long has this issue languished and how long will it continue to languish? The super majority of those responding to the recent AMI Sun cell phone poll have indicated the need and desire for decent cell phone coverage in Anna Maria.
I live in VT and visit Anna Maria every year for a month. I have to walk many blocks to use my cell phone. Here in VT hurricane Irene destroyed many bridges and miles of highways all of which were 95% rebuilt or reopened within a month of the devastating hurricane. Yet the relatively simple issue, by comparison, of a cell phone tower in Anna Maria continues to drag on with no sign of anything ever happening other than the weekly reporting in the island newspapers that still nothing is happening. Amazing. I expect to be reading more of the same five years from now. In my humble opinion, the lawyers involved and city leadership need to be replaced with people who can get something done in a reasonable amount of time.

Subject: Party Houses in Anna Maria
Comments: Mayor Selby and Anna Maria Island Commissioners,

We have observed the clearing of three lots on the corner of North Shore and Hardin Avenue after the tear-down of a house that occupied those lots. We now understand that 3 new homes will be built.

Our concern increased when we learned who the developer is and how he has been allowed, via loopholes in the building codes in Holmes Beach, to devastate so many island communities. We currently have a wonderful sense of community on Hardin Avenue with a combination of residents and a few annual rentals and we look to our commissioners to preserve and protect this environment that we have invested in.

Every year during election time one of the promises made is to 'preserve the uniqueness and quaintness' of our island - here is your chance to come through on those promises. We are asking that you not allow permitting for these 'party houses' until some of our concerns are heard and considered. One of the prime concerns is that with 3 houses, with 6 bedrooms each - only being built for the benefit of investors and party goers - where will these 'guests' and their 'guests' park? It these homes are advertised to house 18+ people, it would seem to me that the entire front yards of each house will have to be paved for parking that would not allow for any aesthetic landscaping.

We have lived here for 25yrs, but with all that the city commissioners are now allowing, our time may be limited. So many families have moved from this island because of a lack on the city governments part to stand up for the residents who have supported this island for all these years in favor of new comer developers and investors. We ask that you stop and think about this and come up with a way to keep our island paradise from becoming a nightmare.

Respectfully,
Marsha and Howard Bard

Subject: Last week's Sun Survey: Cell Tower
Comments:
Thanks for adding two of the serious adverse “side” effects and the hint to less deteriorating technical alternatives to last week's “Cell Tower” Survey choices. Though these additional entries did not find many friends, just mentioning different points of view to look at the problems on hand, might help one or the other citizen out there to think twice about the issue. Meanwhile it turned out that “almost everybody” would like to have a tower on his/her roof no matter whatever the consequences will be. It seems like even a distant view on imaginary future money is blinding.

Comments: ATTENTION: Anna Maria residents in the neighborhood of Hardin Avenue... One house has been torn down and our 'pastel house' developer wants to build 3 homes there..possibly 6 bedrooms each - party rental houses. There is a meeting tonight in Anna Maria... My question is 1. where are all these people going to park? 2. what real estate agent wants to handle my house? - because now my neighborhood is going to be destroyed.
Welcome to the new west coast Daytona Beach!

Subject: Tourism promoters facing criticism
Comments: What a complete joke. The people now claiming they are enraged that rentals are out of control on the Island are the very people who have raped and promoted the Island from one coast of the USA to the other. Carol Whitmore who eats, sleeps and breathes tourism. Ed Chiles who is responsible for the aircraft hangers posing as cottages on Pine Avenue and David Teitelbaum who single handedly has turned Bradenton Beach into a resort! You cannot seriously expect us to listen to what any of these disengenuous people have to say? They ran the guy who was trying to make the City abide by the codes out of town. Well guess what it's way too late. You can't undo the ugliness and the island is already a resort much like anywhere else in Florida. And yes they should all be panicking. They destroyed paradise.
