Bob LoPiccolo
Bob LoPiccolo, 90, of Bradenton, passed away on Feb. 15, at Tidewell Hospice. He recently moved to Freedom Village from Palma Sola Harbor.
A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church on Cortez Road. In lieu of flowers, donation in Bob's name can be made to the Kiwanis Club of Anna Maria Island. His passing leaves those who knew and loved him with a deep emptiness, but his love will always endure.
Known as "Papa," to many, he was an example to others as a man of great faith. His quick wit, positive attitude, and generosity will always be remembered. He is a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a beloved brother. He is a cherished friend to all who knew him. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he came to Bradenton in 1979. He earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and worked in that field for most of his career. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served his country as a Flight Engineer on a B-29 during WWII. His talents were legion, but his love of music and art predominated. A musician all of his life, he really focused on his music when he came to Bradenton and was well-known in the area as an accomplished pianist. He is also known for his exquisite paintings and remarkable fish carvings. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Rossa.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Jeanie, and her husband, Bill Michael, and all four of his children and their spouses, Robert D. and Gayle M. LoPiccolo, of Spring, Texas; James D. and Andrea B. LoPiccolo, of Bradenton; Gary D. and Lisa A. LoPiccolo, of Murray, Ky.; and Sharon S.L. and John C. Harrison, of Myakka City. He is also the proud grandfather of Diane, Jennifer, Bethany, Rob, Sarah, Jonathan, and Laurie. He is the step-grandfather of JodyAnn, Jordan, Chad, and Caleb and the great grandfather of Darby, James, Ki, Levi, Ariel, Austin, Jordan, and Cora.
Theresa J. Treni
Theresa J. Treni, of Homes Beach, died at home on Feb. 16, 2012.
She was born in Altoona, Pa., on September 24, 1927, to the late James and Angela (Fusco) DeFiore. She became a Floridian in 1983 residing in Sarasota, then Bradenton and finally in Holmes Beach. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Holmes Beach.
Theresa was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Halloran, and is survived by her husband, Henry, and five children, Michael, of Ramsey, N.J.; Rebecca, of Beorne, Texas; Stephen, of Englewood, Fla.; Tammy and Henry, of Venice; one sister, Donna Stoltenberg, of Altoona, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Kathleen M. Ghidoni
Kathleen M. Ghidoni, 101, of Anna Maria, passed away Feb. 11, 2012.
She was born Dec. 21, 1910, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was a member of St. Bernard Ladies Guild and Anna Maria Artist Guild and a retired member of Flotilla 81 Coast Guard Auxiliary. Kathleen is predeceased by her husband, Edward L. Ghidoni.
Survivors include her nephew, Robert Cnudde (Yvonne), of Canada.
A service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Arrangements were by Griffith-Cline Funeral Home.
Peter Johnson Van Pelt
Peter Johnson Van Pelt, of Bradenton, died to life everlasting Feb. 6, 2012, after an extended illness. Peter was born in Rockville Center, Long Island, N.Y. on June 13, 1937.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Louise Van Pelt nee Smith; their son, Craig J. Van Pelt, of Ilion, N.Y.; his extended family; and his many friends.
Peter proudly served in the U.S. Air Force installing landing equipment from 1958 to 1962. His career also included being a credit manager for W.T. Grant in Fresno, Calif.; manager of the Singer retail store in Herkimer, N.Y.; manager of the WLFH Radio Station in Little Falls, N.Y.; and vice president of Moval Management Corp. in Herkimer, N.Y. In 1974, Peter was asked to join a team established by New York U.S. Congressman Donald Mitchell, to rescue the Library Bureau, Inc. This corporation, formed in the 1800s by a noted librarian Melville Dewey, was the oldest US manufacturer of wooden library furniture and was to be closed by the Sperry Rand Corporation. This team was able to organize a public equity fund from the local towns and successfully purchased the Library Bureau. Peter then joined the new company as their regional sales manager for Florida based in Ft. Lauderdale. In 1978, Peter assumed the position of vice president of national sales and marketing in Herkimer, N.Y. In 1980, he was promoted to CEO and president of the company. Peter retired and moved back to Bradenton in 1991 and established his own businesses. He was the former owner of Birkey's Cleaners and The Deli and Bagel Shop in Braden River Plaza, Bradenton. These he sold in 2002, and he again retired in Bradenton. Peter was a life-time member of Roser Memorial Church.
A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 17, at Roser Memorial Community Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his name to Roser Church, P.O. Box 247, Anna Maria, FL 34216.
Patricia Hanahan Engman
Patricia Hanahan Engman, of Anna Maria, died Feb. 20, 2012, at home surrounded by her family and friends.
Mrs. Engman was born on May 1, 1942, at Camp Stuart in Hinesville, Ga., and grew up in Lakeland, Fla., where she attended Lakeland Senior High School. She was the daughter of the late Phyllis Anderson Hanahan and Dr. Ralph B. Hanahan, III. In 1965, Mrs. Engman received her A.B. degree, cum laude, from Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., and her J.D. degree from the University of Florida Law School in Gainesville, Fla., in 1969. Following graduation from law school she clerked for Judge David McCain, of Florida's Fourth District Court of Appeals. In 1970, she was assistant to the campaign manager of Lawton Chiles' first "Walkin' Lawton" campaign for the United States Senate and moved to Washington, D.C., in 1971 as a staff attorney for the Senator. In following years, Mrs. Engman served as a congressional liaison officer for the Federal Trade Commission, counsel for legislative and administrative affairs for Bristol-Myers and as the executive director at The Business Roundtable, an association of CEOs of leading U.S. companies comprising nearly one-third of the value of the U.S. stock market. Her role was to develop and implement public policy positions with Congress and the administration. In 2006, she was appointed by President George W. Bush to a President's Emergency Board to investigate, report and make settlement recommendations in a major dispute between a New York rail carrier and its employees, represented by multiple labor unions.
Active in numerous community and civic affairs in Washington, D.C., and in her Florida retirement, Mrs. Engman was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., and Church of the Annunciation in Holmes Beach. She was a member of the Washington Women's Forum. She served on the Board of Trustees of Coker College from 1993-1999 and received their Distinguished Alumni Award. In her retirement, she sat on the board of Florida House and was a member of the Suncoast Women's Forum. She was a member of Key Royale and Bradenton Country Clubs. She was married to Lewis A. Engman, who served as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission under both Presidents Nixon and Ford, was president of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and president of the Generic Pharmaceutical Industry Association, from 1978 until his death on July 12, 1995.
Mrs. Engman is survived by three sons, Geoffrey Engman, of Texas; Jonathan Engman, of Michigan; and Richard Engman, of Florida; her brother, Dr. Ralph Bailey Hanahan, IV; and sisters Christy Hanahan Powell and Elizabeth (Lisa) Hanahan Taylor; eight grandchildren and her fiancé, John Kolojeski.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb 25 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, 4408 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Bradenton, Fla.
